Jason Crundwell, a Mansfield native announced today that he is seeking election to the Mansfield City Council for the Second Ward. Crundwell is currently the Director of Development and Alumni Relations for St. Peter’s Parish & School, and owner of Crundwell Digital Marketing, a small website design company.
Crundwell grew up on Arthur Avenue and graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1995. He spent 12 years working in broadcast television in Toledo, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Indianapolis before starting his own business in 2012. He moved back home in 2015 with his family to take on the role with his Alma Mater. He says the decision to run for city council was an easy one.
“The call for the next generation of public servants kept coming up during my Leadership Unlimited experience,” Crundwell said. “My classmates kept looking at me … you could say I felt the call to serve my community and help it grow. I’ve attended nearly every council meeting since July to make sure this was something I wanted to commit to before taking the plunge.”
One of the most important goals in seeking the council seat is being responsive to the constituents needs in every part of the ward.
“The second ward is probably one of the most socioeconomically diverse in the City of Mansfield. It spans from Glessner Avenue near where I grew up across to Diamond Street, then south to include the Prospect, Sterkel, Ranchwood, and Woodland neighborhoods. The needs of the residents in each of those neighborhoods are vastly different. As a councilperson, I have to make it my goal to work to return phone calls or emails in a timely fashion. I am a big believer in customer service.”
As a Development person, Crundwell says he tends to think long-term when looking at a plan or a piece of legislation. He says that many make decisions with a short-term focus in mind and not what effect it may have ten or twenty years down the road.
“What can we do today to help improve our curb appeal and make our community a more attractive place to live and work? I’m willing to argue there are simple projects that can be considered low hanging fruit, but long-term we need to be looking at addressing areas that are going to become problems sooner than we expect.”
Crundwell has launched a website www.crundwellformansfield.com, which has more detailed information on his platform and issues with links to social media. Crundwell serves as an ex-officio member on several advisory councils at St. Peter’s and is an officer for the Knights of Columbus Council 687. He is married and has three children ages nine, five and four.
